Mat Pilates
Mat Pilates is a way of moving that recruits muscles in appropriate "patterns" steering away from bad habits and poor posture that the participant may have developed. It develops core strength and works deeply from the inside out, providing the trunk with stability so the rest of the body can move freely. The exercises are controlled, flowing movements in conjunction with breathing techniques that simultaneously strengthen and relax the body.
Through the Mat Pilates class women gain:
- Encouragement to explore and enjoy the movement of their bodies.
- Basic understanding of the concept and importance of core strength.
- Exercise techniques that can be used at home to alleviate back, hips, shoulder and neck discomfort.
- Tools to help them move more safely during exercise and daily movement due to the enhanced control and core support.
- Confidence in the body's ability to learn new skills and grow stronger.
From the instructor: "During the last class I taught, the students were sharing their own favorite feel-good exercises. We laughed and we all learned from each other."
