Self Defense
The Self Defense class at the IWD is designed to help participants increase their strength, balance and coordination by practicing martial arts techniques and exercises. In the course of executing these special techniques and exercises, students will at the same time learn practical self defense moves that will increase their awareness and sense of confidence and well being.
Participants in Self Defense will experience:
- Greater stength, balance and coordination.
- Greater awareness of their surroundings and ability to avoid dangerous situations.
- Greater ability to protect themselves.
- Greater ability to perform routine, everyday activities through the practice of the special exercises.
- Opportunity to practice self defense with classmates creating a great sense of comraderie and support.
From the instructor: "It is gratifying to watch the IWD women practice our martial arts techniques and exercises and become aware that this type of training is for everyone who tries. It is fun and rewarding to participate in the class and to watch as the students attain the realization that they can do so much more than they thought and that the more they practice the more they can do. The progress is steady and continual."
