Acupuncture is an East Asian medicine that is practiced worldwide. At the IWD, the Acupuncture program treats women in a clinical style that is both welcoming and healing. Acupuncture involves inserting fine needles into points located along channels or meridians of the body, through which vital energy flows. There may be a dull, achy sensation around the area of insertion, that goes away after a moment or two.
Acupuncture at the IWD offers:
- Treatment for pain, side effects of medication, symptoms, and/or chronic illnesses.
- Referrals to needed services such as gynecology, general medicine or social services.
- Holistic/integrative medicine that coordinates with allopathic medicine.
- A clinical style that allows women to interact, form friendships, and to participate in their community, while empowering them.
