Primary Care

All IWD participants have access to the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases Primary Care Services. The primary care physician provides personalized attention and coordinates the patient’s medical care, by referring to appropriate specialty clinics as necessary. The primary care services focuses on preventative care and coordinates with the IWD social worker, gynecologist and other IWD specialists.

Standard, non-emergency care helps women maintain health and prevent minor problems from becoming major ones that require expensive emergency care or long term hospitalization.

Services include:

  • Routine yearly check up.
  • Screenings for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease.
  • Treatment and management of high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma and other respiratory diseases, or other medical problems.
  • Treatment of flu, sore throat and other non-emergency health problems.
  • Education on disease prevention and health-promoting behaviors.
