Reiki

Reiki, a technique for stress reduction that promotes healing, is also called "universal life-force energy." Unlike other healing therapies based on the premise of a human energy field, Reiki seeks to restore order to the body whose vital energy has become unbalanced. In Reiki, the healer places the hands above the recipient; the recipient that draws the energy as needed. Thus, the individual being healed takes an active part in the healing process.

Reiki has aided women at IWD with

  • increased feelings of relaxation, security and peace
  • the freeing of the body's energy blockages
  • a sense of self-empowerment
  • an increase in self-esteem

From the Reiki master: "A client came in for a Reiki session, she felt confused and in spasm. I told her that the mind is like a giant computer. She understood that immediately and said, "Yes, I just have to delete the spam." At the end of the session, she looked so good but started to 'think' again and was mentioning her confusion."
